Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Indigenous Consultation Coordinator to join our team at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in coordinating and participating in the development and implementation of our Indigenous Consultation activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and participate in the development and implementation of Indigenous Consultation activities, including planning, coordination, and execution of events, meetings, and workshops.
  • Provide coordination and support for Indigenous engagement and consultation, including preparing and disseminating submissions, correspondence, records, reports, tracking tables, payment requests, and information sharing with Indigenous groups.
  • Conduct research into matters relating to Indigenous issues and opportunities that emerge through meetings with Indigenous groups or on initiatives proposed by the port authority.
  • Provide general business communication support to the port authority and the department, including preparing status updates, briefing notes, communication plans, presentations, meeting materials, and other documents as required.
  • Support project communication activities and perform research in support of department initiatives.
  • Maintain Indigenous consultation and engagement records, including posting project-related Web and intranet materials, as required.
  • Coordinate and participate in promotional or special events, or on project teams, as required.
Requirements
  • University degree in communications, Indigenous Studies, political or social science, or another acceptable discipline from a recognized educational institution.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in coordinating Indigenous engagement, research, and/or Indigenous consultation activities.
  • Experience with general project communications and/or community engagement would be considered an asset, as would experience working with Indigenous communities whose traditional territories include the lower mainland.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and the ability to liaise effectively and positively with both staff and outside contacts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a team player with a "customer service" focus.
  • Good organizational skills and flexibility to perform multiple tasks.
