Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Second Year Apprentice Welder to join our Fabrication team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for using a variety of welding processes and tools to produce precision parts and construct Powell Canada products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate precision parts and weld structural steel or sheet metal products to meet dimensional specifications.
  • Operate metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, and shape or straighten sheet metal.
  • Grind and buff seams, joints, and rough surfaces to meet cosmetic and appearance specifications.
  • Perform light maintenance on welding and cutting equipment, as well as small power tools and fume extractors.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to Powell's Quality System requirements.
  • Participate in Powell's ongoing Safety Training and promote a safety culture.
  • Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying potential risks to product quality.

Requirements

  • Minimum education level of a High School diploma required.
  • Completion of 2nd year in a Welding program.
  • Registered Apprentice with AIT (or other provincial programs).
  • CWB Certification is considered an asset, preferably FCAW S-classification all position.
  • Structural steel fabrication experience is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing and Execution System).
  • Safety certifications are an asset for the position.

Working Conditions

  • Temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times.
  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders.
  • Working around loud machinery.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling.
  • Bending, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders, and use both arms at full length.
