About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Locomotive Budget and Reporting Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in managing the financial aspects of locomotive maintenance and operations, ensuring accurate reporting, budget adherence, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the processing and validation of invoices related to Long-Term Parts Agreements and other third-party contracts within the locomotive sector.
  • Maintain meticulous records of warranty tracking for materials, ensuring timely filing of warranty claims in accordance with contract terms.
  • Effectively manage outsourced locomotive maintenance activities or repairs, collaborating with vendors and stakeholders to ensure seamless execution.
  • Contribute to contract negotiations, implementing robust controls for cross-billing charges associated with locomotive contracts.
  • Drive operational effectiveness through lean continuous improvement methodologies, system optimization, performance scorecards, and process management best practices.
  • Guarantee that accounting and reporting processes comply with internal control (SOX) requirements, maintaining the highest standards of financial integrity.
  • Identify areas for process enhancement and implement selected solutions to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
  • Lead the monthly budget outlook for locomotive maintenance materials and third-party expenses, providing accurate forecasts to leadership.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports and forecasts for executive leadership, offering actionable recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Spearhead the annual OpEx and CapEx budget planning process for Locomotive Maintenance, Servicing and Overhauls, encompassing infrastructure improvements and equipment replacements.
  • Serve as a liaison between Mechanical, Finance, Human Resources, and other business divisions, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
  • Manage the development and execution of multi-year capital and SMA initiatives aimed at enhancing CP's ability to provide superior and cost-effective locomotive servicing and repair solutions.
  • Support the justification for equipment modifications and/or changes to maintenance procedures, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
  • Participate actively in locomotive long-term planning teams, contributing expertise and insights to strategic decision-making.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Accounting designation considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in budget management, financial forecasting, and operational oversight within the transportation or mechanical engineering sector.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale OpEx and CapEx budgets.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel Modeling.
  • SAP, or other related ERP experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in BPC or other financial management software and tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights. Ability to condense extensive data into easily understandable terms.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and relationship management skills.
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
  • Knowledge of Railway or Heavy Equipment industries will be considered an asset.
