About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director of Vehicle Transportation Inspection to lead our Vehicle Inspection and Compliance divisions. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people and goods under the jurisdiction of various regulations and acts.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leadership, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of the commercial vehicle and public passenger transportation industry. You will be responsible for providing strategic orientation, direction, and vision for our five Vehicle Transportation Inspection divisions, as well as forging partnerships and relationships with senior government, industry officials, and jurisdictional representatives.

You will also be responsible for providing technical advice and recommendations on all matters related to commercial vehicle, passenger vehicle, and public passenger transportation industry in Nova Scotia, including recommendations on amendments to legislation, regulations, and standards.

We are looking for a candidate who is able to build a strong and cohesive team, inspire innovation and change in the industry, and aid in the development of the annual operational/business plan, strategic goals, and annual budgets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Vehicle Inspection and Compliance divisions
  • Provide strategic orientation, direction, and vision for the five Vehicle Transportation Inspection divisions
  • Forge partnerships and relationships with senior government, industry officials, and jurisdictional representatives
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations on all matters related to commercial vehicle, passenger vehicle, and public passenger transportation industry in Nova Scotia
  • Build a strong and cohesive team
  • Aid in the development of the annual operational/business plan, strategic goals, and annual budgets
Requirements
  • High degree of diplomacy and understanding of the needs of the public passenger, passenger, and commercial vehicle industry
  • Progressive leadership experience
  • Familiarity with the various acts and regulations that guide the industry, including the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act, Public Highways Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and Motor Carrier Act
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the province
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to promote strong relationships and foster collaboration with other provinces to identify benefits and opportunities to advance the industry
