About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Educational Counsellor to join our team at Gateway College. As an Educational Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting students in their academic and personal journeys.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and support to students on educational, career, and vocational matters
  • Counsel students on personal and social issues, ensuring their well-being and academic success
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies to provide comprehensive support to students
  • Coordinate the provision of counselling and information services to students, parents, and teachers
  • Administer and interpret standardized intelligence, aptitude, and interest tests to inform student support
  • Refer students to specialized services when required, ensuring seamless support
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, and workshops to stay updated on best practices
  • Develop and deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposia to share expertise and knowledge
  • Respond to student inquiries, providing timely and accurate information
  • Evaluate and document student progress, ensuring effective support and tracking
Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in government or community programs/initiatives supporting newcomers and refugees
  • Assist with immediate settlement needs of newcomers and refugees, including housing, transportation, and other essential services
  • Support social and labour market integration of newcomers and refugees, facilitating access to community resources, language training, and skills training
  • Recruit newcomers and refugees displaced by conflict or natural disaster, providing tailored support
  • Support newcomers and refugees with foreign credential recognition, ensuring smooth integration
  • Participate in government or community programs/initiatives supporting youth employment
  • Offer on-the-job training tailored to youth, promoting employability and skills development
  • Provide awareness training to employees, creating a welcoming work environment for youth
  • Participate in government or community programs/initiatives supporting Indigenous people
  • Provide cultural competency training and awareness training to employees, promoting a welcoming work environment for Indigenous workers
  • Facilitate access to Elders who can offer support and guidance to Indigenous workers
