Job Title: Sommelier / Wine Steward

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Wine Sommelier to join our team at Baan Lao Fine Thai Cuisine. As a Wine Sommelier, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, guiding guests through our wine and spirit offerings, and maintaining a high level of knowledge about wine and spirits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a brand ambassador for Baan Lao, committed to providing an exceptional customer experience.
  • Ensure efficient and personalized guest service.
  • Lead by example and be a proactive member of our serving staff.
  • Guide guests through available food and beverage options, assisting with selections and pairings.
  • Stock and maintain inventory of wine and spirits, ensuring quality control and rotation.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of wine and spirit tastings and training seminars.
  • Support the service team and floor manager while on shift.
  • Control monthly inventory and weekly ordering, assisting in meeting and exceeding financial goals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage areas.
  • Familiarize yourself with the requests of return guests and special attention guests, to better serve them on the floor.
  • Continued education and research on new products within the food and beverage industry.
  • Regular team, supervisor, and food and beverage meetings.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a server and sommelier in a fine dining restaurant with a focus on wine and spirit service.
  • Professional attitude and attention to detail.
  • Thorough knowledge of wine, spirits, and other alcohols, with a focus on BC wines and Old World wines.
  • Self-motivation for continuous education about wines and spirits.
  • Professional and positive attitude in every aspect of the position.
  • Consistent punctuality and dedication.
  • Calm, polite, and composed demeanor.
  • Valid Serving It Right Certification.
  • Sommelier Certification Diploma.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Authorization to work in Canada.
  • Serving It Right Certification.
