Geo-Environmental Field Technician Graduate Position

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Geo-Environmental Field Technician Graduate to join our team in Ottawa. As a Geo-Environmental Field Technician Graduate, you will be responsible for overseeing drilling investigations, coordinating utility locates, and interpreting engineering drawings and reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversight of drilling investigations involving geotechnical, hydrogeological, and environmental components.
- Coordination and review of utility locates and utility drawings.
- Interpretation of engineering drawings/plans and reports and layout locations in the field.
- Logging of soil and rock.
- Surveying.
- Completion of SPT and Shelby tube sampling, as well as in-situ vane shear tests.
- Collection of soil samples for environmental and geotechnical testing.
- Liaise with subcontractors, client representatives and/or agencies, as required.
- Training staff in field methods and sampling techniques.
- Working with and providing support to other members of the group in assisting with other field, laboratory and office activities as required.
- Completing clear, neat, and accurate field notes.
- Preparation of data tables, stratigraphic logs, scopes of work, health and safety plans.
- Adherence to GHD and client's safety requirements including appropriate PPE.
- Requirement for travel. Projects are generally in GTA/Greater Golden Horseshoe area with possibility for travel to Northern and Eastern Ontario (25%) depending on project opportunities.
- Estimated 95% of time outside the office in the field.
Requirements:
- 3 - 5 years of relevant experience.
- College Diploma in an Earth Science, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Technology/Technician program.
- Working knowledge of geotechnical, hydrogeology field testing and bedrock drilling/logging.
- General experience with the MS Office software such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Working knowledge of MECP, MNRF, MOL and Acts & Regulations associated with the type of work being performed.
- Working knowledge of the following Ontario Regulations, as amended: 903, 347, 558/00, 153/04, 213/91, 406/19.
- Experience acting as a MOL Supervisor for larger drilling programs.
- Valid First Aid/AED Training certification.
- Must own a reliable vehicle and hold a valid driver's licence.
- Adaptable and analytical, with a willingness to ask questions.
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
- Self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Team player, cooperate with other staff.
- Ability to meet challenging deadlines.
- Working in highly congested utility situations and with linear infrastructure projects considered an asset.
- Previous experience working on larger infrastructure projects and northern Ontario experience an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with clear well-written notes.
