Lead Urban Planning Manager

WSP is actively seeking a Lead Urban Planning Manager with a strong background in project oversight and a passion for community development to join our esteemed Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design division.
This role is pivotal in enhancing our community planning initiatives, focusing on comprehensive land use strategies tailored for municipal clientele.
The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting Project Management teams, ensuring the successful execution of various municipal land use planning studies.

Key Responsibilities:
- Author and coordinate planning reports, studies, zoning regulations, and community improvement plans.
- Manage or progress towards managing small to medium-sized municipal planning projects.
- Assist Project Managers on larger, complex municipal planning initiatives as a Deputy Project Manager or Senior Planner.
- Provide expert planning advice across a diverse range of municipalities, including urban centers, small towns, and rural areas.
- Contribute to WSP's Centre of Excellence in municipal planning, collaborating with professionals to share innovative strategies and enhance business development.
- Prepare and contribute to work plans and proposals in response to municipal requests for various planning projects.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality work that reflects WSP's commitment to excellence.
- Stay informed on planning trends, best practices, and legislative updates.
- Monitor project budgets and timelines, proactively identifying and addressing risks and issues.
- Support mentorship initiatives, inspiring early-career professionals and project teams.
- Deliver engaging presentations to stakeholders, municipal councils, and the public in both virtual and in-person formats.
- Manage multiple projects with varying priorities, demonstrating exceptional time management and adaptability.
- Identify challenges and opportunities, proposing creative solutions to overcome obstacles.
- Coordinate and lead multi-disciplinary teams on land use planning projects, integrating urban design, landscape architecture, and engineering expertise.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Planning, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, Geography, or a related field.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong time management abilities.
- A keen interest in municipal planning, public policy, and land use regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of provincial land use planning legislation and its application to municipal projects.
- Experience in delegating tasks and managing project teams.
- Familiarity with design tools such as SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite is advantageous.
- A highly motivated, organized, and enthusiastic team player committed to delivering high-quality service.
- Proven Project Management experience with complex municipal or land development projects involving multi-disciplinary teams.
- Membership in the International Association for Public Participation and/or Project Management Institute is a plus.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License.
