Lead Environmental Consultant

ERM Group is in search of a seasoned Senior Environmental Consultant to contribute significantly to our operations.
The successful candidate will possess a robust background in conducting ecological and biological assessments, particularly in relation to renewable energy projects, infrastructure development, and environmental compliance.
This role presents a remarkable opportunity to enhance your professional journey with ERM's proficient consulting teams, focusing on environmental permitting and compliance, while also engaging in diverse projects such as wind energy, electrical transmission, and technology infrastructure.
As a senior project leader, you will oversee the permitting and due diligence processes, spearhead biological field surveys, and conduct comprehensive research to ascertain permitting requirements. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and managing permitting strategies.
- Coordinating with relevant authorities throughout the permitting phases.
- Preparing and reviewing permitting documentation for local, state, and federal requirements.
Additionally, you will engage in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance and state-level reviews for substantial capital projects.
Your expertise will be crucial in leading habitat assessments, delineating wetlands, and conducting species-specific surveys. You will also play a pivotal role in preparing technical proposals, including scope development and cost estimation, while actively participating in business development initiatives.
Building and maintaining strong client relationships will be essential for fostering repeat business. You will collaborate with fellow ERM practitioners to execute comprehensive Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) projects, which encompass environmental impact assessments, land use planning, and risk evaluations.
As a mentor, you will guide junior and mid-level consultants, enhancing their technical planning and permitting skills.
It is vital to stay informed about ongoing and upcoming projects in the broader region to effectively coordinate staffing and project needs.
Understanding ERM's service offerings and market strategy will also be part of your role, contributing to recruitment and team-building efforts.
The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years of experience in due diligence and permitting, particularly in consulting for private-sector clients. Key qualifications include:
- A high level of technical proficiency in biological assessments and permitting practices.
- Strong relationship-building skills with major clients.
- Exceptional writing, communication, and strategic thinking abilities.
