About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Wind Energy Analyst to join our Renewable Resource Assessment Team at WSP Canada. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for analyzing meteorological and production data, developing meteorological deployment plans, and performing wind flow modeling using various techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and interpret meteorological and production data to inform wind energy project design and energy modeling.
  • Collaborate with WSP field staff and WindServerTM team to develop meteorological deployment plans.
  • Perform wind flow modeling using CFD and Meso-scale techniques.
  • Configure and perform wind resource calculations to assess facility performance.
  • Evaluate renewable energy technologies for best economics and assess facility performance based on technology and climate.
  • Calculate uncertainty bounds through statistical analysis of measurements and models.
  • Evaluate the performance of operational wind farms and perform turbine selection and layout optimization for lowest cost of energy and project risk.
  • Complete climate suitability calculations for turbine load and lifetime extension.
  • Organize and document geospatial data, generate maps, and perform calculations using GIS software.
  • Conduct research and process development to continuously improve energy assessment methodologies and product offerings.
Requirements
  • At least 4 years' experience in the wind energy industry or meteorology field.
  • Completed a post-secondary undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, meteorology, mathematics, statistics, or applicable technical discipline.
  • Proficiency with programming languages, particularly Matlab and Python.
  • Experience with evaluating and understanding meteorological phenomenon is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with wind flow modeling software such as Meteodyn is considered an asset.
  • Pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving.
  • Affinity for improving workflow processes and balancing standardization with efficiency and quality.
  • Strong professional work ethic and effective communication and inter-personal skills for client and team interactions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, OneNote).
  • Ability to independently plan work schedule and manage individual responsibilities and projects with quick turn-around times.
