Job Opportunity: Facility Maintenance Night Lead Hand


Job Summary:

Oak Bay Parks, Recreation & Culture is seeking a highly organized and experienced individual to fill the role of Facility Maintenance Night Lead Hand. This position is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the Oak Bay Recreation Centre's facilities and equipment, including the ice rink, swimming pool, and air-supported structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain water heating and filtering, ice-making, and ice surfacing equipment, performing minor servicing and maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain the ice sheet(s), swimming pool, bubble, and associated enclosed areas during shift.
  • Ensure that all custodial functions are carried out to a high standard, including maintaining inventory of custodial supplies and advising the Maintenance Supervisor of supply needs.
  • Supervise and direct maintenance staff, ensuring they are carrying out their prescribed duties and following work procedures.
  • Implement and enforce building security procedures, ensuring designated staff are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Perform a variety of building cleaning and maintenance functions, as well as related work as required.

Requirements:

  • Four years of directly related experience in custodial and mechanical maintenance aspects of recreation facilities maintenance.
  • Supervisory experience, including hiring, scheduling, and evaluating staff.
  • Knowledge of plant equipment and maintenance of recreation facilities, including ice making, building heating, air-supported structures, pool heating, and filtration equipment.
  • Level I and II Pool Operator's certificate.
  • Valid Refrigeration Operators certificate recognized under the BC Pressure Vessels and Boilers Act.
  • A valid BC Driver's License (Class 5).
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS.
  • Valid BC Drivers License.
  • Current CPR-C and OFA-Level 1 certification.
  • Provision of a current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Working Conditions:

  • Monday-Friday 5:00am-1:00pm OR 4 nights/week 10:00pm-8:00am.
  • Oak Bay Recreation Centre.

Compensation:

  • $34.32/hr (step 1)-$36.71/hr (step 3) – 2024 rates.
  • Full-Time (This is a union position).
