Friesens Corporation is currently seeking applications for the position of Level II Bindery Machine Operator to meet anticipated staffing needs.

The Level II Bindery Machine Operator will be tasked with the setup of machinery and adherence to packing instructions for the products produced, as outlined in the electronic job docket. This role requires collaboration with the Lead Operator and the support team to ensure safe and efficient machine operation, producing high-quality products in the required quantities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up the backgluer area of the Encaser on the hard cover book line as a Level II Encaser Operator.
  • Managing the setup of the three-knife trimmer on the soft cover binding line as a Level II Perfect Binder Operator.
  • Operating sewing machines to produce sewn book blocks from collated signatures on the Multiplex System as a Level II Multiplex Operator.
  • Troubleshooting basic machine performance and making necessary adjustments.
  • Calling for additional resources as required.

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a bookbinding machine operator.
  • Basic troubleshooting and maintenance experience with machinery.
  • Effective English communication skills.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, including Microsoft Office.
  • Essential math skills, including metric and imperial measurements.
  • Ability to effectively utilize production-related documents.
  • Capability to identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and products.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Safe operation of machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to use small tools effectively.
  • A mindset geared towards continuous learning and improvement.
  • Team-oriented with self-management capabilities.
  • Professional and diplomatic interaction with colleagues.
  • Excellent manual dexterity.
  • Willingness to work overtime and 12-hour shifts as needed.
  • Flexibility to work at various Friesens facilities.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and handling procedures.
  • Forklift training and operation may be required.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with the lead operator, production support staff, and management.
  • Handle machine setup and assembly for production runs.
  • Understand job requirements from docket information and lead operator communication.
  • Run samples and make necessary adjustments.
  • Conduct periodic visual checks and inspections.
  • Manage stock for jobs and stack components neatly.
  • Identify storage for finished components.
  • Return completed dockets.
  • Assist the lead operator with machine maintenance as outlined in the Machine Maintenance Binder.
  • Adhere to Friesens safety procedures for equipment and plant operations.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
