Program Manager, Hardware Engineering

Wärtsilä Energy Storage & Optimization (ES&O) stands at the forefront of global energy storage optimization. Our objective is to provide comprehensive energy solutions that foster a resilient, intelligent, and adaptable energy infrastructure, paving the way for an optimized renewable future. By merging renewable energy sources, energy management technologies, and storage systems with traditional energy resources, we are transforming clean energy production across diverse environments, from extensive and intricate grids to vital microgrids. Our efforts are integral to Wärtsilä's vision of achieving a 100% renewable energy future, emphasizing flexibility, reliability, and integration for a more sustainable world.

We are seeking a Program Manager specializing in Hardware Product Development to become a vital part of our dynamic and fast-paced Energy Storage & Optimization team. In this role, you will oversee the execution of product development activities, which encompass managing costs, timelines, program scope, risks, changes, documentation, status reporting, vendor relationships, and facilitating communication among stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess over 5 years of program management experience within a hardware product development context. Familiarity with product development in energy storage and renewable energy sectors is advantageous.

Key Qualifications:

• Proven program management experience in hardware product development.

• Understanding of the Program Manager's role in hardware product development.

• Proficient in MS Project, MS Office Suite, and JIRA/Asana for task management.

• Strong English communication skills are essential (Mandarin is a significant advantage), along with motivation, organization, independence, and a personable demeanor.

• A passion for innovation, adaptability to rapidly changing market demands, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

• A readiness to take ownership of challenges and initiatives.

• Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

• A strong work ethic and an energetic, enthusiastic approach.

Responsibilities:
The individual in this role will be instrumental in defining product development activities, creating budgets and schedules for programs. You will communicate program status and keep the cross-functional team updated on immediate activities and challenges. This position will require adherence to the phase gate product development process and expediting tasks to ensure program timelines are met.
Additionally, you will prioritize tasks for the development team and monitor their execution to ensure alignment with expectations.

Program Manager, Hardware Product Development Responsibilities:

• Develop schedules and budgets for new product development initiatives.

• Provide program status updates to the team.

• Implement the Wärtsilä Phase Gate process for new product development projects.

• Collaborate with functional managers and suppliers to create realistic program plans.

• Oversee and contribute to the creation of product requirements documents, development plans, customer-facing documentation, and marketing support materials.

• Coordinate with Business Development, Product Management, and Supply Chain to facilitate the launch of new products and feature releases.

• Demonstrate strong communication skills and financial insight to assist in defining and developing the budget for the program.

Additional Expectations:

• In-depth understanding of the hardware development process for both electrical and mechanical design activities.

• A minimum of 5 years of program management experience in a product development organization.

• An independent, self-motivated individual with a proven ability to thrive in uncertain environments and adapt to changing requirements.

• Strong process management skills with experience overseeing multiple teams on concurrent product development activities.

• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and collaboration abilities.

• A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree or training in Agile/Scrum is a strong plus.

• Demonstrated capability to deliver results in a matrix environment without direct managerial authority.

• Experience in coordinating activities and establishing priorities for the development team.

• Proficient verbal and written English skills are essential; Mandarin is highly desirable.
