About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Care Attendant to join our team at the BC SPCA. As a key member of our shelter staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional care and attention to the animals in our shelter, including feeding, cleaning, and administering medications as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with our front office staff to provide excellent customer service and support to the public.
  • Assist with the maintenance of our shelter facilities, including kennel runs and cat cages.
  • Participate in the adoption process, including preparing animals for adoption and assisting with adoption procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers' License and driver's abstract.
  • Philosophical harmony with the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the BC SPCA.
  • Demonstrated interest in all aspects of animal welfare.
  • Sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics, and common diseases.
  • Strong desire to provide excellent customer service skills, including patience, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Resourceful team player who excels at building trusting relationships with colleagues, customers, and volunteers.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize demands on time and maintain a high level of fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties.
  • Computer experience: Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
