Position Title: Radiation Safety Program Manager

Reporting Structure: Reports to Senior Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Management Responsibility: Oversees the Radiation Safety Program

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with additional hours as needed for incidents

Overview

The primary objective of this role is to ensure that all personnel and the organization adhere to safe radiographic practices in compliance with Federal, Provincial, and local regulations. This includes adherence to all relevant radiation safety policies and procedures. The individual will be responsible for the development, coordination, documentation, and upkeep of company policies and radiation safety manuals for various locations across the country, including:

  • Emergency and Operating Procedures
  • Transport of Hazardous Materials Manuals
  • Technician Work Procedures
  • Radiation Awareness Training Manual
  • Source Retrieval Training and Procedures
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and uphold Radiography Operating Procedures.
  • Empowered to enforce Safe Radiographic Operations.
  • Create a training program for radiography staff, emphasizing ALARA principles.
  • Establish competency assessment programs for radiography personnel.
  • Manage the procurement and disposal of nuclear materials for radiography.
  • Ensure the Personnel Monitoring program is effectively implemented.
  • Guarantee the availability and maintenance of exposure devices and related equipment.
  • Ensure sufficient Radiation Survey Instruments are accessible.
  • Maintain a Calibration program for Radiation Survey Instruments.
  • Implement and sustain a Leak and Wipe Test Program.
  • Establish an Internal Inspection and Audit system.
  • Ensure adequate record-keeping systems are maintained.
  • Develop an equipment inspection and maintenance protocol.
  • Investigate incidents to determine causes and corrective actions.
  • Oversee emergency situations as necessary.
  • Act as the liaison with Regulators and Management regarding License matters.
  • Conduct radiation safety audits and field inspections related to safety and security.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Engage with industry associations and regulatory working groups.
  • Participate in radiation safety trade shows and industry meetings that benefit the organization.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with a focus on mathematics and physics.
  • Completion of RSO third-party training and refresher courses.
  • Training in Source Retrieval.
  • Third-party training in Transport of Dangerous Goods.
  • Experience as a third-party auditor is advantageous.
  • Ideally, at least five years of experience in the Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) industry.
  • Minimum certification at CGSB RT level 1 and/or CEDO certification.
  • Proficient in MS Windows and MS Office applications.

Work Environment

Work is typically conducted in a private or semi-private office setting. Occasional short-term travel may be required, and work may involve both indoor and outdoor field environments.
