Job Overview

As a pivotal member of the Engineering and Construction Services (ECS) Division, you will contribute to the development of safe and sustainable municipal infrastructure that enhances livability. This division specializes in providing engineering design and construction services to various city departments, agencies, and external clients.

Role Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Lead Engineer/Project Manager within the Development Engineering Unit, you will oversee the review of development applications in accordance with the Planning Act. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a case manager for various land development applications.
  • Collaborating with cross-divisional teams on significant city-building initiatives.

Project Management Duties

You will manage multiple projects from inception to completion, ensuring compliance with city standards. Key duties include:

  • Reviewing and approving the scope and budget for new city infrastructure.
  • Coordinating input from various city divisions and securing necessary permits.
  • Providing detailed technical reviews of engineering proposals and ensuring adherence to city policies.

Leadership and Guidance

As a recognized leader, you will mentor team members and oversee inspection staff to ensure compliance with project requirements. Your leadership will foster effective teamwork and high-quality work standards.

Technical Proficiency

Your expertise in municipal engineering, particularly in stormwater management and infrastructure design, will be invaluable. You will represent the division in meetings with stakeholders and provide expert testimony when required.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

Strong communication skills will enable you to convey complex information to diverse audiences. You will maintain relationships with various stakeholders, ensuring effective collaboration on assigned projects.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • A degree or diploma in civil or municipal engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario is preferred for Senior Engineer positions.
  • Extensive experience in development engineering and managing municipal infrastructure projects.
  • A valid Province of Ontario Class 'G' Driver's Licence.

Your knowledge of relevant legislation and proficiency in software tools will be essential for success in this role. You will also support the values of equity, diversity, and respect within the workplace.
