Position Overview

The Housing Support Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing the dignity and quality of life for individuals facing personal crises. Reporting to the Director of Programs and Operations, this position involves assessing clients' needs and providing guidance on housing, social assistance, education, and various health and social issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver case management and counseling services to clients in resettlement, focusing on securing long-term housing solutions.
  • Facilitate connections to necessary services and coordinate support using a case management framework.
  • Guide clients through the resettlement journey, offering support, direction, and encouragement.
  • Provide education on life skills, literacy, and career planning to empower clients.
  • Share information about community resources and government programs with clients.
  • Advocate for clients to enhance their access to essential services.
  • Identify service gaps and collaborate with other departments to develop new programs.
  • Refer clients seeking substance abuse rehabilitation to both in-house and external resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive client information.
  • Represent Good Shepherd Centres positively and adhere to established customer service protocols.
  • Participate in case conferences and consultations as required.
  • Keep organized files and maintain accurate case documentation.
  • Support the efficient operation of the Resettlement Program and assist in training Aftercare and Life Skills Development Workers, students, and volunteers.
  • Adhere to the strategic direction set by relevant authorities regarding housing and case management.
  • Uphold the confidentiality and ethical standards of Good Shepherd Centres consistently.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Programs and Operations or designated personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the Mission, Vision, and Values of Good Shepherd Centres.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in case management.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of homelessness, poverty, health issues, and relevant services.
  • Proven experience in assessment, crisis intervention, and case coordination.
  • Familiarity with legislation and policies related to housing and social assistance.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong written communication and computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving abilities to foster teamwork.
  • Creativity and adaptability in achieving desired outcomes.
  • Welcoming and supportive in interactions with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Responsive to the needs of diverse individuals.
  • Capacity to understand the complexities faced by individuals from varied backgrounds.
  • Exceptional communication skills to engage effectively with diverse populations.

Job Type: Full-time
