Job Summary

Insituform Technologies Limited is seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Field Engineer. This position will be responsible for supervising and facilitating the construction phase of projects, directly managing sub-contractors, and providing oversight and project support for production, safety, quality, and project management standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Provide technical and operational direction and project management principles to the planning, design, and operation of rehabilitative and inspection projects.
  • Estimate Review: Review estimates for assigned projects to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Site Visits: Conduct site visits to assess traffic requirements, work shift types for prep and lining, and update P6 with findings from the field.
  • Issue Identification: Discuss with the Project Manager any issues found in the field that haven't been captured in the estimate and/or might affect scheduling.
  • Safety Oversight: Observe and bring forward any safety concerns or observations identified in the field with the Project Manager, General Superintendent, and Safety Manager.
  • Client Communication: Attend client Pre-Construction meetings, Progress meetings – as required.
  • Permitting: Apply for applicable permits.
  • Field Support: Assist field crews with delivering 48hrs notices to residents, when needed.
  • Quality Control: Reviewing prep videos and finals for concerns and escalating potential issues as well as updating the system.
  • Traffic Control: Make all necessary arrangements for Traffic Control for both prep crews & lining crews.
  • Cleanouts: Locate cleanouts for Building Bypass where required – ask for assistance from the Superintendents and/or the GS if needed.
  • Bypass Planning: Discuss mainline bypass requirements with Ops and draft bypass plans – review with PM prior to submittal to Clients/Consultant Engineers as required.
  • Work Packages: Prepare work packages for all crews (prep & lining).
  • Relationship Building: Maintain strong working relationships at job sites with field leadership and crews.
  • Liaison: Act as liaison between field and office.
  • Site Visits: Perform regular site visits to assess project progress and crew productivity.
  • Cost Tracking: Track job costs & report to PM any variances.
  • Invoice Preparation: Draft monthly invoices and submit to PM for review & approval.
  • Time Sheet Approval: Approve Time sheets for assigned crews and report any inconsistencies between charged activities/material info and the measured data in P6.
  • Safety Culture: Carry out Monthly Safety Culture Day as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Project Management Certificate, Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Degree, or Technical Diploma from an accredited technical institution.
  • Experience: Previous experience in water/sewer or municipal environment is an asset.
  • Skills: Ability to plan, schedule, and assign work of crews including training and communication updates.
  • Software Proficiency: Must have a solid understanding of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and databases, Microsoft Project, and JD Edwards software experience an asset.
  • Administrative Tasks: Ability to complete applicable reports, calculations, records, and administrative tasks.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills and the ability to give presentations.
  • Travel: Approximately 30% travel.
