About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Social Worker to join our interdisciplinary team at the Department of Community Services. As a Social Worker, you will play a critical role in assisting children, families, and their communities in fulfilling their potential.

Primary Accountabilities

Our ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of children in the care of the Minister and those who remain in the care of their parents where concerns exist about their health and safety. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing child protection concerns and working with families and communities to address them
  • Counselling individuals and families
  • Planning and developing case plans with families
  • Working closely with community and advocating for connections to community resources
  • Participating in risk assessments, court testimonies, and evaluations
  • Planning with and supervising children in care of the Minister
  • Recruiting, preparing, assessing, and supporting foster and adoptive parents
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require a completed Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work, a valid driver's license, and eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW). You will also possess strong team player skills, be empowered to impact change, and be compassionate, reliable, and resourceful.

Working Conditions

As a Social Worker, you will work in a comfortable office environment with flexible working options available. You may be required to provide child and family well-being services for your designated area, which may involve working on weekends and reporting to the provincial after-hours response team. You must be able to work under pressure and be personally and professionally committed to working with culturally diverse individuals in an inclusive manner.

Additional Information

This is a term opportunity with an anticipated end date. The appointment status is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate. The worksite location is flexible within the Western Region, and your worksite location will be determined at the offer negotiation stage.
