Surgical Services Registered Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Services team at Fraser Health Authority. As a Registered Nurse in this role, you will provide direct nursing care to patients within the Operating Room (OR) according to established standards and administrative policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Assess patients' physical and psycho-social needs, identify problems, and develop plans to address them.
- Provide nursing care to patients according to physician and anaesthetist orders, and in conformance with established standards and hospital policies.
- Participate in identifying and reducing risk factors that may impact patients and/or healthcare teams.
- Act as an advocate to protect and promote patients' rights to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
- Modify care as needs change, and initiate immediate treatment as required.
- Obtain, check, set up, and position supplies, instruments, and equipment required for surgery, ensuring that instruments and equipment are in working order.
- Follow standardized count policy and provide appropriate documentation.
- Perform scrub and circulation duties within the OR according to prescribed procedures and protocols.
- Collect information from various sources using skills of observation, communication, and physical assessment to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data.
- Participate as an active member on nursing and hospital committees and councils for improvement of patient care and/or work environment.
- Participate in the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students by providing information and acting as a preceptor and mentor as appropriate.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year's recent relevant clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area, and completion of post-graduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
