Job Title: Youth Care Worker

Join School District #57 (Prince George) as a Youth Care Worker and make a positive impact on the lives of students with emotional, social, or behavioral difficulties.

About the Role:

The Youth Care Worker will work under the direction of a teacher or administrator to develop and implement individual education plans for students with unique challenges. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain liaison with teachers, counsellors, administrators, students, and their families.
  • Conduct home and community visits to support students and their families.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of specific academic/social interventions with students who present unique and challenging behaviors.
  • Provide guidance to students and their families, and participate in field trips and other special events.
  • Transport students as needed, and assist the teacher in evaluating and reporting on individual students.
  • Regularly participate in screening and review meetings, and communicate with parents and community agencies under the direction of the teacher/administrator.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 education.
  • Two-year diploma/certificate (60 credits) from an accredited college or university in areas related to child or youth care and counselling.
  • Two years of experience with exceptional children or youth in the appropriate age range.
  • Valid British Columbia driver's license.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to follow directions with regard to individualized education plans and the dispensing of medication.
  • Ability to deal with challenging behaviors in an emotionally and physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate school equipment.
