Sexual Health and Blood Borne Infections Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Sexual Health and Blood Borne Infections Nurse to join our team at Fraser Health Authority. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation services for clients who have, or are at risk, for sexually transmitted or blood borne infections.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and participate in providing sexual health and blood born infection (SHBBI) services related to HIV, Hepatitis C, and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and associated health conditions.
- Utilize outreach approaches to engage with at-risk populations.
- Develop excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including physicians, acute care, primary health care centers, and others.
- Provide harm reduction education, counseling, and support to access services for at-risk populations.
- Apply an integrated case management approach to ensure appropriate, culturally sensitive, relevant, and efficient care and support for clients affected by HIV and Hepatitis C.
- Utilize the social determinants of health and within the framework of health promotion, harm reduction, and prevention, identify the health issues, behaviors, needs, barriers, and challenges for at-risk populations.
- Immunize children and adults against vaccine-preventable disease.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing including public health nursing component.
- Certification in Reproductive Health (STIs) with BCCNM, and two (2) years' recent experience in public health/communicable disease management including experience performing HIV testing and certified contraceptive management nursing practices or equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
- Valid BC Driver's Licence and possession of a personal vehicle for business use.
- Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with various stakeholders with tact and diplomacy.
- Broad knowledge of HIV, STI, and Communicable Disease management.
- Broad knowledge of immunization and related reactions and contraindications.
- Demonstrated ability to administer injections and recognize adverse reactions.
- Knowledge and skill in applying the principles of health promotion, community development, and population health.
- Knowledge and skill in working with culturally diverse and/or vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge and skill in working with Trauma Informed practice.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety, community resources, and agencies as required.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, internet, and email software.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
