About Our Opportunity

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a skilled Researcher to join our team in the Land Services Branch. As a Researcher, you will play a critical role in supporting the work of the Department by researching Crown land records and providing reports on the status of Crown lands for various Crown land transactions.

Primary Accountabilities

As a Researcher, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting detailed research and analysis of Crown land records and providing reports on the status of Crown lands
  • Interpreting and evaluating cadastral/ownership information, legal documents, aerial photographs, legal descriptions, plans of survey and associated return of survey files, legal decisions, purchase files and historical records
  • Assisting clients with regards to the status of land and records contained at the Crown Land Information Management Centre
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A 2-year Planning Technician course, such as Paralegal or Survey Technician, or an acceptable equivalency of training and experience
  • A good understanding of legal descriptions, geographic information systems, records management, and knowledge of or an understanding of survey plans and maps
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
