The Community Ministries Worker plays a vital role in delivering services to family services clients with empathy and care, aligning with the Mission, Vision, and Values of The Salvation Army.

This is a part-time role offering benefits, requiring a commitment of 25 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development

  • Ensure that ministry goals are consistently met and integrated into outreach initiatives, linking community members to church programs when possible.
  • Collaborate with the Community Ministries Officer and Program Coordinator to plan and execute existing and future programs for individuals, families, and youth, aiming to create a positive community impact (including Christmas distribution, summer camps, food banks, and youth programming).
  • Support initial intake for Family Service clients, assess their needs in consultation with the Community Ministries Officer and Program Coordinator, and provide necessary services or referrals to appropriate agencies.
  • Assist with volunteer management as directed by the Community Ministries Officer or Program Coordinator.
  • Represent the Family Services program at community meetings as needed.
  • Contribute to all programs, including special events and Christmas initiatives.
  • Oversee the coordination of the annual Christmas Kettle campaign.
  • Support the Program Coordinator and Community Ministries Officer in engaging with community partners to secure resources for outreach programs.
  • Foster connections between individuals and families and the Lloydminster Corps through outreach efforts and relationship building.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain detailed records of activities, including reports and statistical data.
  • Ensure confidentiality and accurate record-keeping of client information on Link2Feed.
  • Assist in managing volunteer files and statistical records as directed.
  • Collaborate with the Administrative Assistant and Program Coordinator to create promotional materials that showcase various programs offered by Lloydminster Corps, subject to supervisory approval.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for specific programs.

Communication

  • Engage empathetically with congregants, families, and staff.
  • Promptly inform the Community Ministries Officer and Program Coordinator of any concerns or issues.

Health and Safety

  • Assist the Program Coordinator in maintaining program storage areas, ensuring safety and organization.
  • Pursue ongoing education in food safety and health standards, including maintaining Safe Food Handling Certification.
  • Comply with OH&S Act and Regulations and adhere to The Salvation Army's health and safety policies.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completion of a 2-year Community College diploma or certificate.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Safe Food Handlers Certification.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience, including work with individuals facing multiple barriers, mental health challenges, and various social service programs.
  • Understanding of the needs of children and youth.
  • Knowledge of working with marginalized populations.
  • Respect and understanding of diverse cultures and ethnicities.
  • Valid Alberta Class '5' Driver's License, personal vehicle, insurance, and a satisfactory Driver's abstract.
  • Provide a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that meets The Salvation Army's standards.
