RF Engineer

Yves R. Hamel et Associés is seeking a highly skilled RF Engineer to join our team in Toronto. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and deploying cellular networks and distributed antenna systems (DAS) for our clients in the GTA and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deployment of RF systems, including cellular networks and DAS
  • Requirements definition and network analysis
  • Simulation and modeling using tools such as InfoVista Planet, Ekahau, and IBWave
  • Design of passive and active DAS systems, small cell, micro cell, and pico cell
  • Link budgets, coverage, and capacity planning of LTE, 5G-NR, and Wi-Fi networks
  • Design of cellular networks using LTE, LTE+, 5G-NR, and Wi-Fi technologies
  • Design of private cellular networks for Industry 4.0 and critical infrastructure operators
  • Creation of BOM and CAPEX and OPEX estimates for cellular and Wi-Fi networks
  • Drafting of functional and technical specifications and requirements
  • Selection and design of RF transmission sites
  • Development of interconnection specifications
  • Follow-up of network expertise and optimization
  • Quality of service audit for DAS and small cell installations
  • Cellular coverage and performance measurements – walk-test & drive-test

Requirements:

  • Electrical or computer engineering degree from a recognized engineering school
  • Member of Professional Engineers Ontario
  • 5 to 8 years experience related to the RF domain, particularly the design of cellular networks and DAS systems
  • Knowledge of cellular networks using LTE, LTE+, 5G-NR, Wi-Fi technologies
  • Knowledge and experience in the Ontario telecom market, including telecom operators and critical infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of modeling tools such as InfoVista Planet, Ekahau, and IBWave
  • Participation in telecom projects, preferably in cellular and DAS network design
  • Knowledge of interference issues, Safety Code 6, microwave, and/or fibre-optic backhaul
  • Knowledge of service deployment issues and troubleshooting
  • Planning, design, coordination, and project management
  • Autonomous, responsible, and self-motivated
  • Anticipate travel within the GTA
