Dental Support Services Professional

We are seeking a part-time Dental Hygienist to join our team at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care. The successful candidate will provide dental hygiene services to inpatients, including preventative oral hygiene services, and will work closely with our healthcare team to ensure the best possible care for our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Provide dental hygiene services, including scaling, root planning, impression taking, placement of pit/fissure sealants, polishing, and application of topical fluoride and oral hygiene instruction.
- Observe the needs of patients in preparation for and during dental hygiene procedures, and conduct preliminary examinations of the oral cavity and surrounding structures.
- Develop and implement a program of preventative oral hygiene education for in-patient and out-patient populations, and for direct care staff.
- Maintain hygienic conditions in the dental work area, including infection control measures, and monitor inventory of dental office supplies.
- Visit units to assess patient's oral hygiene problems and educational needs, and evaluate the urgency of patient's dental needs.
- Current licensure and membership in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO).
- Knowledge of current registered dental hygiene practices and procedures, as mandated by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario.
- Knowledge of dental program services, policies, and procedures, and relevant parts of federal and provincial legislation.
- Knowledge of psychiatric illness and various symptoms, in order to better understand and manage patient behavior while receiving dental care.
- Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proven written and verbal communication and facilitation skills.
- Proven ability to adapt readily to change.
- Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values, and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude.
- Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
