About This Position

Digital Extremes is seeking a highly skilled Senior Lighting Artist to join our exceptional art team. As a key member of our creative team, you will collaborate closely with Art Directors and Creative Directors to set the mood, atmosphere, and tone of our projects through lighting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of game design and artistic direction documents to inform lighting decisions and propose atmosphere and lighting ideas.
  • Design and implement lighting systems that support the atmosphere and gameplay effects, highlighting the work of the Level Design and Level Art teams.
  • Collaborate with the artistic director and technical director to validate the quality of the lighting and make any necessary changes.
  • Ensure the quality of the lighting from both an artistic and technical standpoint across multiple levels and projects.
  • Provide technical and artistic support to other team members to resolve lighting-related issues.
  • Optimize lighting to meet the technical limitations of the engine.
  • Contribute to the ongoing maintenance of our live and evolving game as it pertains to lighting.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • College diploma or University degree in 3D, Game Development, Graphic Arts, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • Formal training or experience as a lighting artist in games or film, or a studio photography setting.
  • Minimum five years of experience in real-time lighting for games, with a high-level understanding of artistic and technical guidelines.
  • Artistic knowledge of lighting techniques, real-time and pre-rendered.
  • Knowledge of lighting, color theory, and image composition.
  • Practical experience using project management software such as Jira, Shotgun, or BaseCamp.
  • Experience in photography or computer graphics is an asset.
  • A portfolio of your own work demonstrating a diverse range of lighting types and settings, and an ability to tell a story through composition, staging, and lighting.

  • Previous leadership or project management experience in a game development environment.
