Job Overview:

The individual will oversee the fiscal operations of a diverse range of research initiatives, which include commitments from the University, collaborations with other institutions and private entities, as well as funding from federal and provincial agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

Interpret and relay relevant financial regulations, procedures, and guidelines to researchers and administrative staff. Formulate strategies aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of fund utilization. Ensure that research proposals, funding contracts, budgets, financial transactions, and reports align with research agreements and the current policies of the University and funding bodies. Provide financial policy, procedure, and guideline information to interdisciplinary research teams at the onset of awards to ensure compliance with University and sponsor regulations. Review research accounts in collaboration with researchers and administrative staff. Monitor the financial health of projects. Identify and address financial challenges within projects. Assist with both internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries. Develop financial budgets for inclusion with grant proposals during the pre-award phase. Prepare financial forecasts and adjust budgets throughout the fiscal period. Update researchers and administrative staff on account statuses and provide guidance on resolving specific issues. Create tailored spreadsheets for ad-hoc reporting, inquiries, and financial analysis. Design forecasting and budgeting templates. Analyze and evaluate eligible research spaces and associated costs by compiling construction documents such as blueprints, engineer and architect comments, contribution budgets, and expense details. Generate invoices for funding agencies and ensure timely collection of funds. Notify researchers and administrative staff of account overdrafts and collaborate to resolve these issues. Facilitate and engage in working groups to enhance and streamline internal controls related to research finance and respond to audit recommendations. Attend and contribute to research group and departmental meetings. Develop and conduct training and informational sessions. Review research contracts, policies, and guidelines for minor amendments. Stay informed of changes to funding agency policies and communicate updates regarding eligibility and administrative processes. Uphold the confidentiality of research funding and contract information.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related discipline. Completion of advanced level courses towards a recognized Canadian accounting designation. A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required.
