Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Relief Correctional Worker 2 to join our team at New Directions Community Residential Facility. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in providing residential support to adult male offenders who are conditionally released to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communication
    • Ensure accurate and timely entry of information into logs and records
    • Respond to incoming calls and messages in a professional and courteous manner
    • Communicate effectively with clients regarding conditions of release and facility guidelines
  • Monitoring
    • Conduct regular observations and monitoring of client behavior to ensure a safe and secure environment
    • Utilize security cameras to maintain the security of the facility
    • Perform bed checks and wellness checks of clients to ensure their well-being
    • Document and report any incidents or concerns to management and Correctional Service Canada
  • Documentation
    • Prepare and maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for client files
    • Ensure the secure and confidential storage of protected information
    • Prepare documentation in compliance with health and safety procedures
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Perform other duties as required to support the smooth operation of the facility
Working Conditions

This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required, and the work schedule will be determined in consultation with your supervisor. The facility operates 24/7, and applicable shifts may include a 1⁄2 hour unpaid meal break.

  • Perform duties in a community residential facility setting
  • No travel required
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Completion of Secondary School Diploma
  • Post-secondary studies in Social Services or a related field
  • Valid, current certification in First Aid & CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
Experience and Knowledge
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with adults in the criminal justice system in an institutional or residential setting
Skills and Capabilities
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Strong oral communication skills to establish trust with clients
  • Competent in word processing, including Windows, Microsoft Office, and Excel
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully
  • Ability to obtain Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance through Correctional Service Canada
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada
