Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining the facility's equipment to ensure uninterrupted operation. This includes performing preventative maintenance procedures, making recommendations for major repairs and purchases, and monitoring and controlling building automation systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facility equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance procedures to ensure optimal equipment performance and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Make recommendations for major repairs and purchases to the Facilities Supervisor.
  • Monitor and control building automation systems to ensure best operation of chillers, cooling towers, and heat exchangers.
  • Repair and maintain material handling systems, including rail car unloading systems, vacuum pumps, and motors.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on Keeprite and Carrier Air Handling Units, sprinkler systems, and associated equipment.
  • Monitor work performed by contractors in emergency situations.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in mechanical rooms and facilities storage areas.
  • Support snow plowing and gardening activities.
  • Complete and maintain related records, including maintenance logs and security incident reports.
  • Transport equipment, furniture, and supplies manually or using aids such as dollies and carts.
  • Operate Sky-Jack or Zoom Boom as required.
  • Ensure energy savings and continuous improvement initiatives are followed.

Requirements

  • Industrial Millwright certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of hydronics, pneumatics, and controls required.
  • Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Five years of registered trade level experience in building and utilities maintenance required.
  • Minimum five years' experience in the plastic industry required.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems required.

Training and Development

  • On-the-job training provided by the company using the buddy system.
  • Health and Safety, WHMIS, SQF policies and procedures provided by Polytainers.
