Alamos Gold's Island Gold is one of Canada's highest grade and lowest cost gold mines. This underground operation is located just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa in Northern Ontario. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold's Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality, and Alamos is now investing in a major expansion project which is expected to transform Island into one of the largest and most profitable mines in Canada with an 18-year mine life. This is a very exciting time at Island Gold.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections and job observations to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Mentor and train team members.
  • Recommend additional diamond drilling to enhance understanding of the ore body.
  • Collaborate with Geology, Engineering, Exploration, and Operations in both short and long-term mine planning.
  • Provide stope reconciliations, dilution estimates, grade forecasting, and blending.
  • Oversee the Production Geology Department's activities.
  • Utilize Datamine, CAD, and other modeling and geostatistical software to produce geological and grade wireframes for designated projects.
  • Perform data entry and basic administrative duties.
  • Manage drill contracts and oversee cost control.
  • Advise on suitable QAQC protocols.
  • Ensure production forecasts are precise, attainable, and aligned with company objectives.
  • Undertake all other tasks related to the operations of Island Gold Mine as directed by the Chief Geologist.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology.
  • 5-10 years of experience in an underground mining production environment.
  • Strong communication, computing, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to safety practices.

Working Conditions:

  • 4x3 – Tuesday to Friday schedule.
  • Combination of office and underground work environments.
  • Company charter flights are available for travel to and from work locations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to handle core boxes and sample bags weighing 40-50 pounds.
  • Occasional travel underground.
  • Must possess necessary certifications for working in an underground mining environment.
