Position Summary: We are currently seeking a skilled Side Load Operator to operate our Class 3 Sideloader Refuse vehicle from our Truro, NS location. The operator will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle while adhering to all safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate the Side Load tandem truck along designated routes to fulfill contractual obligations.
  • Conduct thorough pre-and post-trip inspections of the vehicle.
  • Communicate with the Dispatcher regarding departure and return times.
  • Load and unload heavy materials, tools, and equipment while navigating various traffic and road conditions.
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisors to receive delivery instructions.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs for the vehicle.
  • Document any driving infractions or suspensions as necessary.
  • Complete end-of-day check-ins to ensure accurate paperwork is maintained.
  • Prioritize safety and awareness of surroundings to protect fellow employees.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, utilizing appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid commercial driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Class 3 driver's license with air brake endorsement in good standing.
  • Ability to follow a structured work schedule as directed by supervisors.
  • Willingness to collaborate within a team environment and comply with established procedures.
  • Capability to operate necessary equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to lift weights ranging from 20 to 75 pounds regularly.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Previous experience in waste management or recycling is preferred.
  • Experience in residential curbside collection is an asset.
  • Commitment to safety as a fundamental condition of employment.
