Job Summary

The Coat Check Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring a seamless experience for patrons entering Gerts. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify patrons' identification to ensure age of majority before granting access to the bar area.
  • Issue patrons with a visible stamp for entry/re-entry into the bar.
  • Manage patrons' belongings in an organized manner, ensuring accurate coat check tickets are provided.
  • Return patrons' belongings upon presentation of their coat check ticket.
  • Close and secure the coat check room at the end of each shift, removing any unclaimed items and recording them in the lost and found.
  • Assist patrons in navigating the building, providing information on available resources and activities.
  • Support event operations throughout the building, adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
  • Exemplify integrity, professionalism, and a positive attitude, promoting the SSMU's vision and values.
  • Represent the SSMU brand with enthusiasm, confidence, and a positive attitude.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Bar Manager.

  • Ability to work calmly and professionally in a high-pressure environment.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods.
  • Integrity, maturity, honesty, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Punctuality, organization, responsibility, and a friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and take direction.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the McGill environment is an asset.
  • Highly professional attitude and work ethic.
  • Proven team player.
  • Commitment to adhering to COVID-19 regulations and adapting to new protocols.

Additional Information

  • This is a paid position with a competitive hourly rate.
  • The contract dates are from January 3rd to May 31st.
