Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Primary Worker to join our team at the Ellen Osler Home. As a Primary Worker, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to women in our Correctional Residential Facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial intake packages with new residents, advising them on house rules and guidelines.
  • Assist residents in achieving their goals, monitor progress, and prepare for discharge as directed.
  • Complete voluntary or involuntary discharge procedures for residents as assigned.
  • May assist with the delivery of in-house programs.
  • Perform urinalysis testing and random breathalyzer tests as assigned.
  • Ensure household chores are completed and signed off by residents.
  • Conduct research on community programs and services for the benefit of clients.
  • Supervise and assist residents during appointments and outings.
  • Complete case file reporting in a timely and organized manner.
  • Maintain the Residential Duty Log and document medication requests and passes.
  • Uphold information security standards and follow access to information procedures.
  • Maintain and update resident documentation.
  • Initiate new documentation and complete internal and external reports for CSC.
  • Participate in shift change procedures and document accordingly.
  • Complete monthly Salvation Army reports according to Ministry Unit protocol.
  • Liaise with Client Care Supervisor, Caseworker, Parole Officers, and community services.
  • Model and supervise appropriate behavior, intervene in crises, and provide supportive counseling and advocacy.
  • Engage in developing interpersonal relationships that promote dignity and respect.
  • Model and supervise daily life skills, including supervising chores and conducting room inspections.
  • Perform regular collateral checks of residents.
  • Provide guidance and support to volunteers and students.
  • May perform 'in charge' duties as directed.
  • Monitor the environment and residents to ensure safety and security.
  • Conduct routine house and grounds checks prior to shift change.
  • Oversee and/or conduct monthly fire, safety, and security drills.
Organizational Responsibilities
  • Develop an understanding of The Salvation Army's Mission in Canada and its impact on work.
  • Comply with Salvation Army operating guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Comply with Corrections Service of Canada standards and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain information in strict confidence and according to Protected B standards.
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member.
  • Work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations.
  • Maintain and encourage positive interactions with residents.
  • Participate in supervision and performance appraisal process.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Treat The Salvation Army's property with due care and caution.
  • Act in the best interest of the employer at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training as required.
Working Conditions

This is a part-time position with 16 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.

Applicable shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break.

May work with potentially aggressive clients.
