Interior Health Authority is seeking a skilled Healthcare Quality and Safety Advisor to become part of our dedicated team on a full-time term basis.

Position Overview:

The Advisor plays a crucial role in leading Quality Assessments and Patient Safety Investigations in response to significant adverse incidents. A key emphasis is placed on deriving insights from clinical operations, particularly focusing on healthcare system deficiencies, through thorough examination of serious adverse occurrences across the region. The Advisor offers specialized knowledge and support for the implementation and integration of evidence-based methodologies, frameworks, and guidelines to enhance safety throughout the healthcare continuum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and expertise to foster a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Enhance quality care standards by offering specialized guidance in the investigation and analysis of serious adverse incidents.
  • Lead and facilitate multidisciplinary teams for Critical Incident Investigations and Quality Assessments following significant adverse events.
  • Ensure the involvement of patients and their families in the safety investigation and quality assessment processes.
  • Offer consultation and support to operational and medical personnel throughout the disclosure process following adverse events.
  • Deliver coaching and training for leaders, medical staff, and employees regarding Quality Assessments, patient safety investigations, and complaint management.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation and reporting standards as per relevant policies and regulations.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into adverse events by gathering information, interviewing relevant parties, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the development of actionable recommendations related to patient safety and resolution of concerns.
  • Build partnerships and collaborate with leaders, medical staff, and external agencies concerning patient safety investigations.
  • Work alongside Quality and Patient Safety teams to manage mutual concerns effectively.
  • Utilize data to assess the effectiveness of processes and drive improvements in patient safety.
  • Support and promote the mission and strategic direction of the organization related to patient safety and client relations.
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures, reporting any identified hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a health-related discipline, with educational training in quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Five to seven years of relevant experience, including two to five years of recent clinical experience in healthcare services.
  • Preferred training and certifications in patient safety and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
