Friesens Corporation is currently seeking applications for the position of Bindery Equipment Specialist to meet anticipated staffing needs.

As a Bindery Equipment Specialist, you will be tasked with the setup and operation of various standalone bindery machines, including but not limited to Folders, Cutters, Casemakers, Cover Decorating, Sewing, and Laminating machines, as specified in the electronic job docket instructions. Your role will involve ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of bindery equipment to produce high-quality products in the required quantities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setup and operate standalone bindery machines for optimal quality and productivity.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments on machinery as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with management and team members to fulfill job requirements.
  • Conduct periodic visual and measurement checks to ensure product quality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols.

Specific Roles Include:

  • Folder Operator: Responsible for converting printed sheets into folded signatures.
  • Cutter Operator: Trims materials to specified sizes based on job instructions.
  • Casemaker Operator: Operates machinery to produce hardcover cases for books.
  • Cover Decorating Operator: Utilizes embossing machines for decorating book covers.
  • Laminator Operator: Applies plastic coatings to job components.
  • Universe-Hunkeler Operator: Manages the folding, collating, and sewing of printed sheets.
  • Uniplex Operator: Operates sewing machines to create sewn book blocks.
  • Digital Finishing Operator: Produces sewn book blocks from digitally printed rolls.

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a book binding machine operator.
  • Proficient in English comprehension and communication.
  • Basic troubleshooting and maintenance skills for machinery.
  • Digital literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong mathematical skills for measurements and problem-solving.
  • Ability to identify and resolve machinery irregularities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Capability to operate equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Manual dexterity and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and 12-hour shifts as needed.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate with managers and coworkers.
  • Execute jobs according to the established schedule.
  • Manage the setup and operation of bindery machines for quality and efficiency.
  • Perform maintenance as outlined in the Maintenance Binder.
  • Adhere to safety procedures for equipment and workplace situations.
  • Complete any additional tasks as assigned by management.
