YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a Lead Chemistry Operations Coordinator. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing departmental personnel to ensure operations align with established Standard Operating Procedures and assigned duties.
  • Liaising with laboratory staff to communicate any emerging client needs.
  • Reporting procedural and operational challenges to client service teams as necessary.
  • Analyzing and documenting data to generate client reports, rectifying any discrepancies.
  • Implementing corporate human resource initiatives related to recruitment, retention, training, and performance management.
  • Training and mentoring departmental staff on proper procedures and new analytical techniques, while assessing current methods for potential improvements.
  • Organizing and documenting work schedules to ensure timely completion of analyses.
  • Assisting team members with analytical tasks to guarantee prompt results.
  • Ensuring adequate supplies and equipment are available for departmental operations.
  • Providing management with recommendations to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Utilizing operational expertise to aid in resolving grievances within the bargaining unit.
  • Advising management on the acquisition of new instruments and equipment as needed.
  • Contributing to departmental budgeting to maintain financial health.
  • Establishing and validating new analytical methods within the laboratory.
  • Participating in both internal and external quality audits.
  • Offering ongoing technical guidance to staff.
  • Collaborating with management to ensure quality control and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Maintaining the electronic timekeeping system for the department, overseeing overtime and workflow management.
  • Performing additional related duties as required.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of chemistry, typically acquired through a degree in Food Science or Chemistry, or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. A foundational knowledge of food science is essential for supervising sample analyses. Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols is critical for maintaining a secure work environment. Proficiency in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is required for processing client data and recording analysis results. Strong organizational skills are vital for ensuring efficient daily operations. Experience in a laboratory setting as a technician or similar role is advantageous for supervising laboratory personnel. Excellent client relations skills are necessary for discussing analysis outcomes and addressing client inquiries. The ability to plan effectively is crucial for timely completion of analytical tasks. Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills are required to manage departmental staff efficiently. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective interaction with clients, staff, and management.
