Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced First Cook to join our culinary team at Fairmont Chateau Whistler. As a First Cook, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest quality of food preparation and presentation for our guests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook a la carte and buffet menu items according to hotel recipes and standards.
  • Organize and manage buffets and banquets, ensuring seamless kitchen operations.
  • Follow kitchen policies, procedures, and service standards, as well as all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage.
  • Have full knowledge of all menu items, daily features, and promotions.
  • Monitor business volumes and communicate relevant information to the department in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper labeling, dating, and storage of all items in the kitchen.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including utensils and equipment.
  • Train and supervise junior staff in preparation, cooking, and handling of food.
  • Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances and handle guest allergy concerns with care and importance.
Requirements
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the culinary field.
  • Journeyman's papers or international equivalent an asset.
  • Diploma/Certification in a Culinary discipline required.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly responsible and reliable.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team.
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times.
Physical Aspects
  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50+ lbs.
  • Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting.
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps.
