POSITION SUMMARY

Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) stands as a distinguished healthcare institution, recognized for its commitment to community wellness and professional development. We are seeking a full-time Clinical Applications Manager.

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Clinical Applications Manager will oversee a dedicated team responsible for the management, operational maintenance, and training related to the Oracle Health Cerner system at MGH. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to identify enhancement opportunities and providing strategic recommendations for system customization to optimize patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Team Development
    • Guide a team of application support professionals, including Clinical Informatics Specialists, Technical Specialists, Applications Specialists, Business Systems Analysts, Project Managers, and Trainers.
    • Offer mentorship and direction to staff, ensuring effective workload management and prioritization.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and identifying professional growth opportunities.
    • Encourage a culture of collaboration and innovation to enhance healthcare IT service delivery.
    • Manage operating and capital budgets effectively, ensuring successful project outcomes.
    • Promote continuous improvement in team dynamics, processes, and technology utilization.
  2. Application Strategy and Optimization
    • Oversee all data, functional, and technical decisions related to clinical system applications and databases.
    • Develop and implement system rollout strategies, ensuring adequate training and support for staff during project transitions.
    • Regularly assess system performance and collaborate with clinical professionals to enhance workflows and user experiences.
    • Create policies, procedures, and informatics standards to guide system usage.
    • Contribute to the development of the Information Management and Technology (IMT) Strategic Plan in partnership with senior leadership.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Establish and nurture relationships with clinical and operational stakeholders, as well as external partners, including other Oracle Health Cerner hospital teams and vendors.
  4. Vendor Management
    • Build and maintain strong partnerships with the Oracle Health Cerner vendor.
    • Collaborate closely with the vendor to manage contract negotiations, address issues, and advocate for features that align with hospital needs.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in managing clinical information systems and IT project management within a healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cerner Millennium or similar hospital information systems is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in leading technology teams and managing personnel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a systematic approach to evaluating situations and recommending solutions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project and technology management, focusing on solution development in complex environments.
  • Ability to operate autonomously, setting objectives, managing stakeholder expectations, and overseeing budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and client relationship management capabilities.
  • Willingness to adapt work hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
