Job Title: Floater - Service Advisor

Halifax Public Libraries is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Floater - Service Advisor. This is a part-time, permanent position that requires flexibility and a willingness to work in various library branches and community sites within the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service to library users, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with cash handling, including processing transactions, balancing cash, and preparing deposits.
  • Perform opening and closing duties for the branch, including maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Travel between library branches and community sites to fill gaps for other employees who are absent or unavailable.
  • Assist with programming and events, including hosting, facilitating, and delivering programs for library users.
  • Provide technical support to library users, including assisting with the use of library computers and equipment.
Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade Twelve (12) or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of related experience, including customer service, hospitality, or retail experience.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to read and write English.
  • Basic math skills for cash handling.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills, including functions of a web browser, email applications, and social media applications.
Assets:
  • Fluency in a second language.
  • Previous work experience in a library.
  • Experience with public speaking, performance, or hosting events.
