The Role

The Project Manager will oversee the planning, design, and management of engineering projects, including environmental and transportation engineering initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Lead technical teams on design projects and oversee the creation of final contract documents. Assign tasks to support staff and provide guidance to construction inspectors.
  • Manage the consultant selection process, including drafting terms of reference and negotiating budgets.
  • Facilitate project teams to define project scope and conduct public consultations to gather feedback on designs.
  • Draft and review environmental study reports, ensuring all technical components are addressed.
  • Assist the Transportation Division with the evaluation of development applications impacting regional infrastructure.
  • Prepare project designs and manage schedules, including legal surveys and land acquisitions.
  • Generate cost estimates based on finalized designs and ensure compliance with regional requirements.
  • Coordinate construction approvals with relevant stakeholders and prepare necessary applications.
  • Develop technical specifications for tender documents and manage the tendering process.
  • Conduct public tender openings and ensure compliance with legal and technical standards.
  • Oversee construction activities, ensuring minimal disruption to regional operations.
  • Document pre-construction meetings and review contractor submissions for compliance.
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to contracts and safety regulations.
  • Prepare budget forecasts for the capital program, including estimates for various project components.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles and project management, typically acquired through a diploma in civil engineering technology and relevant experience.
  • Eligibility for membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
  • Familiarity with relevant policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to collaborate with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and produce clear project correspondence.
  • Proficiency in software applications relevant to engineering and project management.
  • Willingness to adjust work hours for public consultations.
  • Ability to travel within the region as needed.
