Position Summary

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Royal Bank of Canada is on the lookout for a dedicated and skilled Senior Quality Engineer to enhance our Performance Engineering team. This role is pivotal in delivering robust performance testing solutions across our Wealth Management sector. The successful candidate will take charge of performance testing initiatives, ensuring that our applications meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

  • Provide expert knowledge and innovative solutions on performance testing methodologies and best practices.
  • Plan, manage, and execute performance testing projects throughout the entire software development lifecycle, including estimation, strategy formulation, execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assess project documentation and collaborate with teams to define the scope of performance testing in new projects.
  • Introduce performance testing practices in areas that currently lack them by partnering with application teams.
  • Analyze test results and prepare detailed reports that validate system performance, including metrics on capacity and resource utilization.
  • Evaluate new performance testing tools to ensure compatibility with our environment and develop automated scripts for test data generation.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Act as a subject matter expert in performance testing, bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain performance test scripts for various applications.
  • Collaborate with development teams to understand architectural requirements and solutions.
  • Interpret business requirements and translate them into performance testing criteria.
  • Enhance formal performance testing processes by implementing industry best practices.
  • Lead the development of advanced testing processes and infrastructure to accelerate release cycles.
  • Oversee performance testing deliverables, managing schedules and quality effectively.
  • Work closely with team members and stakeholders to anticipate and manage changes in performance testing requirements.
  • Provide performance metrics to project leadership and support change request processes.
  • Integrate industry-standard best practices to boost overall productivity and streamline processes.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in performance testing and engineering, with a strong grasp of tools such as Microfocus LoadRunner and JMeter/Neoload.
  • Proficient in creating complex performance testing scripts and executing various testing scenarios including load, stress, and endurance testing.
  • At least 3 years of experience in performance monitoring using tools like Dynatrace or similar.
  • Experience in implementing performance testing within CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins.
  • Solid understanding of non-functional requirements, workload modeling, and performance scenario design.
  • Ability to manage performance testing across multiple large-scale projects with shifting priorities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of software architecture and containerized applications.
  • Fundamental database knowledge, including SQL and the ability to write queries based on requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in performance testing of messaging systems.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and batch performance testing.
  • Basic programming knowledge in Java, Python, or scripting languages.
  • Understanding of test data management and service virtualization.
  • Development experience is an advantage.
