McMaster Children's Hospital has been dedicated to the care of children since 1988, employing a family-centered approach that prioritizes the emotional, mental, and physical health of our young patients. Our facility boasts the fastest-growing pediatric emergency department in Ontario and one of the most advanced neonatal intensive care units in Canada, alongside various specialized programs.

Position Overview

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at McMaster Children's Hospital features a Level III NICU, a Level IIc nursery, and a neonatal transport team, delivering comprehensive medical and surgical care to neonatal patients and their families. Our NICU serves a wide geographic area in southern Ontario, with an interdisciplinary team committed to family-centered care, evidence-based practices, and continuous quality improvement. We are actively involved in collaborative quality improvement initiatives at provincial, national, and international levels.

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in our NICU, you will be assigned to specialized care areas, responsible for delivering respiratory care. You will also provide education to nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, and students throughout the unit. Additional responsibilities may include patient safety initiatives, quality improvement projects, committee participation, and research assistance.

Work Schedule

Rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) exam
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP)
  • Knowledge of ventilator requirements for the micro-premature population
  • Commitment to the philosophy of Family-Centered Care
  • Understanding of developmental care principles
  • Willingness to mentor respiratory therapy clinical students
  • Dedication to lifelong learning
  • Preferred experience in a Level III NICU within the last two years
  • Preferred experience attending high-risk deliveries within the last two years

As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required.
