POSITION OVERVIEW

This role is responsible for the commercial aspects of supply chain management, including but not limited to: identifying and validating suppliers in accordance with our quality standards. You will engage in new model RFQ activities, supplier selection, and program management through to the start of production. The role involves developing, maintaining, and executing strategies for the procurement of assigned commodities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Lead sourcing initiatives for raw materials and components from a global supply network (including RFQ release, analysis, business award, and project initiation through to production).
  2. Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to ensure new model launch activities align with budgetary and timeline objectives.
  3. Support and implement procurement strategies for assigned commodities that align with overall business goals.
  4. Identify and engage new vendors to facilitate the procurement of innovative materials and assemblies.
  5. Foster relationships through effective communication and negotiation with both internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Drive continuous improvement initiatives independently or as part of a larger team, making recommendations based on thorough analysis.
  7. Manage tactical procurement activities to support production needs.
  8. Maintain cost adjustment mechanisms for assigned commodities.
  9. Focus on waste elimination within the value stream.
  10. Conduct effective supplier negotiations.
  11. Perform value analysis and engineering assessments.
  12. Develop, monitor, and report key performance indicators for supplier activities to ensure compliance.
  13. Stay informed about industry trends and influencing factors.
  14. Conduct spot purchases as necessary.
  15. Provide support to production and inventory control teams as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  1. A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred; alternatively, a minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive management within Purchasing, Materials Management, or Production Operations.
  2. Professional certifications such as NAPM (A.P.P. C.P.M.) or APICS (CPIM, CIRM) are advantageous.

Experience:

  1. Over 5 years of progressive experience in supply chain and/or manufacturing operations.
  2. Experience in automotive purchasing is preferred.
  3. A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment with a proven track record of achieving results.
  4. Prior experience managing multiple sites in a manufacturing context is beneficial.
  5. Familiarity with purchasing steel coil, tube, wire, and cold heading parts is a plus.
  6. Knowledge of materials market indices and cost-driving factors is essential.
  7. Strong organizational skills to maintain compliance with company records.
  8. Ability to collaborate with all levels of management, customers, and vendors.

  1. General understanding of manufacturing, assembly, and welding processes, including design and automation.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of product terminology, quality management systems, and manufacturing processes.
  3. Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  4. Strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  5. Team-oriented with the ability to lead projects.
  6. Excellent negotiation and consulting skills, with the capacity to influence others.
  7. Proven ability to manage multiple projects with limited support.
  8. Capability to develop and implement strategic plans through effective communication and training.
  9. Proficient in clear and persuasive communication, both verbally and in writing.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  1. Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding the primary language used in the workplace.
  2. Ability to present information effectively to management and cross-functional teams.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  1. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
  2. Experience with ERP/MRP systems is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Manufacturing Setting: Various types of manufacturing environments.

  1. Standard manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels.
  2. Personal protective equipment may be required in designated areas.
  3. Occasional exposure to slightly disagreeable conditions.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time, typically less than 5%.
