Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Hardware Engineer specializing in Obsolescence Management to become an integral part of our M1A1 team. In this role, you will assess the availability of electronic components and contribute to strategic hardware sustainability initiatives. You will work closely with Program Teams and manufacturers to identify and mitigate component obsolescence, ensuring uninterrupted manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

If you were to step into this role, your primary responsibilities would include:

  • Conducting engineering analyses and providing technical recommendations for component replacements.
  • Implementing predictive obsolescence surveillance of electronic components based on engineering expertise.
  • Collaborating with component manufacturers to oversee obsolescence activities and devise solutions.
  • Assessing and qualifying alternative components to replace obsolete parts while maintaining product performance and quality.
  • Creating and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and part lists.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of obsolescence management activities and decisions.
  • Preparing and delivering reports on obsolescence risks and mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
  • Developing test plans and assisting in the debugging of electrical assemblies, with a focus on their integration within the overall system.
  • Documenting analyses, designs, and tests, including technical notes, specifications, and test reports.
  • Initiating and overseeing product changes through Change Requests (CR) and Engineering Change Proposals (ECP).
  • Collecting and interpreting data through observations and measurements in collaboration with technical and operational staff.
  • Managing projects aimed at product enhancements.
  • Providing technical support during integration and qualification testing.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High proficiency in computer applications, including MS Suite (Excel, Access, Project, Visio, PowerPoint).
  • A disciplined approach to engineering development.
  • Knowledge of printed circuit board design, power distribution, mechanical enclosures, and manufacturability.
  • Familiarity with electronic component specifications and manuals to evaluate feasibility and cost for obsolescence integration.
  • Understanding of Design For Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles and manufacturing processes.
  • 2-5 years of experience in product and design for mechanical/electrical products.
  • Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes, such as SMT and Wave.
  • Experience with electronics testing equipment (Oscilloscope, Multi-meter) and PCB rework/repair.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • A detail-oriented mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • A demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
