Student Support Counsellor

The Ministry of Education is seeking a qualified individual to provide support to students who are Deaf and/or hard of hearing in a Student Lodging setting. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Student Support Manager and School Principal to provide a comprehensive curriculum that promotes language and communication, life skills, social skills, and independence.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide supervision, guidance, intervention, and instruction to students who are Deaf and/or hard of hearing in planned and organized programs.
- Plan, organize, and implement customized individual and group programs designed to meet the personal, emotional, and developmental needs of students.
- Supervise, guide, and instruct students who are Deaf and hard of hearing in the Student Lodging program.
- Provide sound physical care and maintain a safe/secure environment for students.
- Post-secondary educational certificate and/or equivalent training, education, and working experience in a childcare-related field.
- Current certification in Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with AED.
- Current certification in defensive driving.
- Current certification in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS).
- Experience working with students who are Deaf and hard of hearing.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate effective social/recreational/leisure programs geared to meet the needs of students.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation/policies/procedures/guidelines/practices that address student care and safety.
- Excellent communications skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and other professionals in English and American Sign Language (ASL).
