Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled Water Distribution Operator to join our team. As a key member of our Infrastructure & Water Services Dept., you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our water distribution system, ensuring the continuous and adequate supply of high-quality potable water to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and assist with various tasks related to the water distribution system using specialized tools and equipment.
  • Maintenance, inspection, water quality testing, component installation, replacement, or repair, manual labor, and other related duties and tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of the City's water distribution system.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the water distribution system.
  • Communicate effectively with the general public and other employees.
  • Recognize potential issues or hazards and recommend corrective action.
Requirements
  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Minimum of 13 months of experience in a construction or utility operations and maintenance environment.
  • Must obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Operator-in-Training Drinking Water Distribution Operator Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer.
  • Must obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Class 1 Drinking Water Distribution Operator Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer.
  • Must obtain Ontario unrestricted AZ or DZ class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) within the timeframe determined by the employer.
  • Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.

  • Physically capable of performing all duties and activities associated with the position.
  • Ability to work overtime at night, on weekends, and holidays, and participate in on-call rotations throughout the year.
What You Need to Know
  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing.
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.
  • Driver's License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated.
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
