Job Summary

Vancouver Island University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Officer, Community Building to join our team. This is a key role that will provide supports and services related to the internationalization of VIU.

Key Responsibilities
  • Intercultural Programming Support: Provide programming support through liaising with students and employees to facilitate learning programs, activities, and events that contribute positively to internationalization at VIU.
  • Repository Development: Support the development and implementation of a repository of tools and information for employees designed to support internationalization activities.
  • Communications Planning: Support the development and implementation of a communications plan, focused on sharing internationalization and activity information with all members of the VIU community.
  • Program Management: Regularly update website content, manage social media accounts, produce information sharing tools such as newsletters, and contribute to reporting on activities.
  • Program Evaluation: Track program results to inform ongoing program development and improvement.
  • Orientation Programming: Contribute to the development and delivery of orientation programming for international students.
  • Event Coordination: Support the VIU campus community to deliver events such as Global Citizens Days and World VIU Days.
  • Project Coordination: Contribute to the coordination of VIU's international development project activities.
  • Student Development: Apply student development theory to all aspects of the role.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain appropriate confidentiality in compliance with VIU protocols and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: Undergraduate degree.
  • Experience: Minimum one to two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Proven ability to work independently, as a member of a team, and with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Communication: High level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Judgement and Problem-Solving: Proven ability to exercise good judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to prioritize multiple project and activity demands.
  • Event Coordination: Proven ability to coordinate all aspects of virtual and in-person events and meetings.
  • Student Development Theory: Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and ability to apply that knowledge to implement appropriate supports and services.
  • Culturally Diverse Populations: Demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse populations or groups.
  • Repository Development: Demonstrated experience with supporting the development of repositories and information sharing tools.
  • Web Content and Social Media: Demonstrated experience with updating web content and social media.
  • Program Evaluation: Demonstrated experience with tracking results as outlined in assessment plans.
  • Orientation Programming: Demonstrated experience with supporting orientation programs, including on-going orientation for international students.
  • Intercultural Programming: Demonstrated experience with supporting intercultural programming that supports internationalization, including large events such as World VIU Days and Global Citizens Forum.
  • Communications: Demonstrated experience with delivering communications to a broad and diverse community.
  • Program Development: Demonstrated experience with developing and delivering programs and learning activities.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in general office software systems (MS Office, file-sharing, web design, database) and design software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Education: Experience working within an educational/post-secondary setting.
  • Cultural Experience: Experience studying, volunteering, or living abroad.
