Job Title: Cytotechnologist/Histology MLT

At Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Cytotechnologist/Histology MLT to join our Laboratory Services team.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing laboratory testing in Cytology and Histology, adhering to established laboratory protocols and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will possess excellent technical skills, strong communication abilities, and a commitment to maintaining professional competence through ongoing education and training.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform laboratory procedures for histology functions and grossing, microtomy, embedding, staining, and ensuring the completion of assigned workload.
  • Screen each cytology slide and record all findings for review by Pathologist.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and clean laboratory equipment and work area.
  • Participate in teaching, educational, safety, and quality improvement programs.
  • Observe and understand hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental mission and vision statements while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Perform cross-functional duties as assigned or requested.
  • Perform other duties related to and consistent with the job classification as required.
Qualifications:
  • CSMLS registration in Cytopathology.
  • Currently licensed in good standing by CMLTO to practice as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in the province of Ontario in Histology.
  • Evidence of competency with respect to Cytology as per CMLTO guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control Programs and equipment maintenance – required.
Experience:
  • Cytology – minimum 1 year experience.
  • Histology – experience is an asset.
Requirements:
  • General certification in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized post-secondary institute.
  • Certification through the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Ontario (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility required.
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologist (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility required.
  • Participation in professional committees, networks recommended.
  • Minimum one (1) year recent laboratory experience in related discipline(s), as required by assigned area, preferred.
  • General knowledge of all areas of the laboratory preferred.
  • General knowledge of the theory and practices of applicable laboratory procedures and equipment required.
  • Meditech and LIS knowledge and experience an asset.
  • Experience with current instrumentation/automation in respective area an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop skill and knowledge in required areas of the laboratory required.
