Project Safety Specialist

Valard Construction is seeking a dedicated and experienced Project Health & Safety Advisor to join our team.

In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the safety and well-being of all personnel working on construction projects. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs, as well as providing guidance and support to project teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and foremen to establish a robust safety culture and develop corrective action plans for identified issues or concerns.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and training to field staff to ensure adherence to all safety protocols and expectations.
  • Facilitate weekly safety meetings, document minutes and action items, and diligently follow up on assigned tasks. Distribute meeting summaries to the head office promptly.
  • Prepare comprehensive weekly and monthly safety reports to track progress and identify trends.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and project teams, effectively communicating expectations and working collaboratively to resolve any arising issues.
  • Provide direction and support to ensure compliance with Valard's policies and procedures, as well as those mandated by legislation or our clients.
  • Assist supervisors and foremen in developing and reviewing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) with crews, ensuring their availability at the work site.
  • Participate actively in regular meetings with the project safety team to review issues, trends, and upcoming conditions or events.
  • Contribute to regional meetings with the Health & Safety Manager by providing agenda items and insights.
Qualifications:
  • National Construction Safety Officer Certification or an Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) College or University Certificate or diploma program.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in health and safety within a construction environment.
  • Exceptional incident investigation skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage stress and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
